Movies I'm Excited About
I haven't been good at posting recently. Blame life, it's a total asshole.
It has seemed to me that recently we have all been going through a real drought in quality movies. I don't have high standards, I love everything, I'll watch any movie. I'm a movie person. I try to go to a movie a week, and if I can't make it to the theaters I get one on Netflix or Amazon, so this lack of anything worth going to see has been tough for me. It's that period of time right after all of the film festivals, when they're prepping the movies that won to be realized. It's a long and stressful wait for those of us who didn't have the privilege to see them at festivals. So today I thought I would write about a couple of movies I've seen trailers for that I'm really looking forward to. These are in no particular order.
1.) Kickass 2
I watched the first Kick-Ass on an airplane to India. As I said, I don't have incredibly highbrow taste, so I loved that movie. I know it wasn't that good, but I loved it. It was so bad it was brilliant. Chloe Moretz is genuinely amazing, one of my favorite actresses, and just about any movie she's in I love. Even Dark Shadows. That's one of my favorite movies, and it was complete crap. It also has Jim Carrey, which is weird. Have you noticed he's been trying to push his persona a little? I don't know if it's working for him. Overall, it just looks stupid and hilarious and who doesn't want to watch Moretz beat up bad guys?!
2.) Now You See Me
I have a thing for movies that are like "Government, boooo, humans, yea!" So this movie looks awesome. And Morgan Freeman is amazing. Everything he is in he makes better. I would like my conscious to be in his voice. It has mostly well known names, I don't know if they'll be playing roles we haven't seen them play a million times already, but why not be excited about it?! It looks cool. The kind of thing you see with four of your friends on a Saturday evening, so I'm definitely looking forward to it. Isla Fisher is sexy as Hell, too.
3.) Kings Of Summer
One of my favorite movies all time has to be Stand By Me, and this movie reminds me of it a little. Three boys are fed up with their parents, so they run away and build a house in the forest. Judging by the trailer it has some genuinely funny lines, which is always a plus when a movie claims to be a comedy. It comes out in the summer, which seems fitting, and I do think I will go see this one. The acting doesn't look that terrible and the setting is really beautiful. I love a good setting, which would explain why I love Wes Anderson. It has the acting of a typical movie, but the setting of Moonrise Kingdom, another one of my favorite movies. Of course, it won't live up to the beauty of Moonrise Kingdom, every shot in that movie was like poetry, but it's cute that it's trying.
4.) Syrup
This is my kind of movie. Sexy people playing sexy characters, making fun of humanity. Who doesn't love that?! It's R rated, so I'll have to find the book, but this movie looks awesome. That's really all I have to say about it.
5.) The Internship
This movie looks completely stupid, not any better than most of the crap that has been coming out, but I'm still going to see it. Mostly because Max Minghella plays a hipster dude. He was already attractive, then he put on a beanie and wide rimmed glasses and the world was perfect for a minute. And who doesn't like Google, I mean really.
I am so freaking excited for this one. Just, like, whoa. JOSS WHEDON directs it. Joss Whedon is just generally amazing, one of my top three directors along with Wes Anderson and Baz Luhrmann. I'm annoyingly artsy, I know. Shakespeare and Whedon were made for each other, I'm sure of it. It's main roled by Amy Acker, a classic Whedonite who you may remember played Dr. Saunders as well as Whiskey in Dollhouse and Illyria on Angel, she's amazing, I love her. The movie is mostly in black and white with touches of incredibly chosen colors so subtle you might not even notice them. It has that classic Whedon sense of humor, which caters to mine. It is modernized, but it keeps much of the same language, which is cool and reminiscent of so many adaptions of Shakespeare's plays. I am so extremely excited to see this movie! I hope it doesn't disappoint. .
