YouTube
This is going to be a long, long, long blog. I should probably save this for Sunday.
So YouTube. SSH and I are both seriously obsessed with YouTube. When I'm sick I spend between five and eight hours a day on YouTube. There are definitely differences between the channels each of us pick, though. She has her few channels that she remains completely devoted to week after week, month after month, year after year. I, on the other hand, have about thirty channels that I watch at any one time and they change every couple of months. I don't feel a particular sense of loyalty to most of my channels, though I do have my few. On the other hand, even though I'm not quite such a devoted fan, I am much more open to new material. So today I'm going to talk about every single channel I'm currently subscribed to by genre. There are a lot. So many, in fact, that I will be splitting it into two parts. What you have here for now, and the rest on Sunday.
So, first genre we have nail art. If you know me you know I'm absolutely obsessed with nail art. If my nails aren't some super weird, complicated picture then they're still a well manicured french tip with nail hardeners. My nails are never blank. I get most of my nail inspiration from YouTube channels. Cutepolish was the first nail art channel I ever discovered. She had very nice hands and a very nice voice. I think she's Asian. I've never seen her, but she sounds Asian. She does very nice themed and picturesque nail art, and less abstract pattern nail art. She has a lot of tools that she uses. When I first started watching her I didn't own any of them, but now I do, so I guess you could say she cost me money. It wasn't really her fault though, right? From there I branched out. Recently the ones I have been watching especially are CreativeNailArt, ArcadiaNailArt, TotallyCoolNails, Simple Nail Art Designs, IHaveACupcake, and Insanely Mental Nail Art. That last one seriously lives up to it's name. I have never even tried one of her patterns, she's more for entertainment. She's definitely a... character.
Next genre would be comedy and vlogs. This is gonna be long. To start off with, Ray William Johnson. Although he himself is sort of like an alcoholic garden gnome, his channel is fairly professional and well made. He does reviews of viral videos every Tuesday. He has 6,968,367 subscribers, and I honestly think he deserves it. The lighting, the sound and the film quality are really good and he himself is not that horrible of a host. He does a good job. He's definitely not for everyone, but he's for me.
So, Chester See. You have probably heard of him. He's mostly known for his covers, I think, but personally I like his sketches better. Either way, I watch the videos he posts every Tuesday. He has a great voice, but the over the top emotion and the fact that all the music videos are black and white... it just gets on my nerves. He's smart and funny and socially considered attractive and he dresses nice, which is something more guys should do. His videos are well made, and that probably accounts for the 965,007 subscribers. I'm one of them.
BethInShow is a branch of My Damn Channel. What's My Damn Channel? Don't worry, we'll get to that. Beth is, once again, not for everyone. She is a little... strange, and hyper, and socially awkward. But lovable, right? She's nice. I used to not have a lot of women that I'm subscribed to, and now it's pretty much equal, and My Damn Channel definitely contributed to that. I found Beth through Daily Grace. Daily Grace, you ask?
Daily Grace is amazing and I love her. Especially because she posts a new vlog every day, which is rare and makes me very happy. She is like 4Chan. Addicted and crazy and you're not allowed to mention her. Just go watch her. She's awesome.
For a complete change of pace, next up is Wheezy Waiter. He has 417,741 subscribers currently, which is a freaking awesome number. He's very funny and very odd. And a geek. And sciency. Not for everyone, but SSH and I both really like him. His outro song is very catchy.
The Brothers Riedell were the winner of Internet Icon. They're really very good. They're very funny. They post every Wednesday and they are hilarious and smart. Their videos are well made. I love them. They're fairly new to YouTube, so they only have 101,542 subscribers. I hope they get the following they deserve, because they really do deserve it. They can also sing.
I don't feel like Jacksfilms gets the attention it deserves. He's a cool dude and his Your Grammar Sucks videos are seriously genius and hilarious. I like him. He's a good YouTuber, but maybe not such a great actor. I've only seen a couple of things he's done portraying characters, though, so it may be preemptive. Go give him a chance.
Barely Political is a well known channel, and with good reason. They have 2,310,373 that they have accumulated since 2007. They are smart and one of the few channels that I don't feel has lost quality over the years. They do parodies and sketches and the entire cast is likable and you feel like you get to know them.
Justin James Hughes was another competitor on Internet Icon. He may not be quite as funny as The Brothers Ridell, but he's vastly more attractive. He was the only really attractive person on Internet Icon. I'm not proud, but I kind of had a freak out when he got kicked off. He is definitely cute. He does vlogs and the occasional sketch. The quality is good. He sits on a stool with a completely white background and the lighting is good, in my opinion. He posts about once a week, but isn't dependable in that area. He has 116,675 subscribers.
I had honestly no idea what category to put PewDiePie in. Normally I would put him under gaming, but he's the only playthrough channel I watch. He does play through's of any kind of video game. He swears a lot, but is entertaining and energetic. I'm not sure why I like his videos, but they're pretty good and kind of addictive. He posts multiple videos every week day, so during the week you're never out of new material to watch. The quality of the video games is as good as the game itself and the rest of the quality is also good. He is pretty popular on YouTube, with 4,187,743 subscribers.
I was hooked on ESSNEMMA as soon as I realized she was Emma Caulfield, who plays Anya on Buffy. On Tuesdays she does "Garb bag Tuesdays" and on Thursdays she does advice. She's very smart, very funny, and I love her as a person. The quality overall isn't the best, but it isn't the worst, either. She has 9,834 thousand subscribers, but deserves many more. I mean, there's definitely more than 9,834 Buffy lovers.
Okaynate is another branch of My Damn Channel. He does vlogs about whatever he wants and posts every Thursday. He's geeky and does the tech for My Damn Channel Live. He's not always the most entertaining, but he fills in time on Sick days. The quality is very good, hence being able to do tech for MDC Live. He only has 4,020 subscribers and he's one of the lesser known My Damn Channel branches, but so he's not so shabby.
Danisnotonfire is one of the channels that I will always be completely devoted to. He's British and dropped out of law school to become a YouTuber. He posts once a week, but the exact day is sort of up in the air. He calls his channel The Internet Support Group. He's funny and has nice hair and his ears are pierced which is very amusing. The quality of his videos is pretty good, though the sound could be a little better. He has about 944,569 subscribers. Having 1,000,000 makes you a viral channel, right? He's almost there! Well...
Joe (Joseph Thatcher) is the brother of one of my favorite fashion channels. He does comedy vlogs. He's very new to YouTube with only 20 videos, but he already has 162,107 subscribers. The quality is good if not surprisingly good. He is fairly cute in a fluffy, One Direction guy kind of way, which isn't really my thing but I'm sure it helps bring in the subscribers. He is definitely talented and one to watch over the years so that you can say "I watched him before he was cool."
Casper Lee is a South African teenager with good hair and a good accent. That generally comes with being from cool places. The sound and lighting aren't always stellar, but at least it's HD. He does vlog videos and he's funny. He has 446,010 subscribers. Have you ever noticed how people like people more when they're cute?
AmazingPhil is the YouTuber who inspired Danisnotonfire to start YouTubing. Now he and Dan live together and are often in each other's vlogs. They also have a radio show on BBC on Sundays from 7-9 British people time. If you're American like me you can watch it on the BBC British website He does vlogs and posts about once week. The quality is good and he has 577,351 subscribers, with good reason. He's very funny.
NigaHiga... I think he's been ruined with time. He's still very funny but the sound quality sucks and his posting times are not particularly dependable. At all. I still watch him on the undependable days he posts, but he's losing subscribers. He still has 6,740,279 of them, but I think he's running out of good ideas.
MEEKAKITTY does mostly music videos. I think she's Canadian. She's a pretty red head. Very smart and funny. She doesn't post too often, but the music videos she does are high quality and well made. She has 879,639 subscribers.
